Miscellaneous Bits: 2/2/2007

There's been a lot going on recently. So here's a few interesting tidbits from around the World Wide Web that we thought we'd lump into one big blog posting for you.

• If you thought we disliked Singerman, wait until you see this guy's website! We were laughing so hard at the photoshop gallery that we were almost crying. Case in point. --> [BrandonRouthIsNotSuperman]
  


• Apparently the guy who coined the name "Super Man," Friedrich Nietzsche, wouldn't have been a big fan of Singerman either. [PopMatters]
  
  
• Time Warner had a nice 4th Quarter of 2006. No thanks to film and home video divisions though. Say, who was their main summer tentpole film again? [Bloomberg]
  
  
• Now is the time to go write a Singerman 2 spec script. W.B. may buy it off you to cover their butts when Singer and Co. steal some of your ideas, because W.B. just TOTALLY did that with Wonder Woman. [/film]

Miscellaneous Bits: 12/1/06

Some rather interesting tidbits from around the internet about the goings-on with Singerman, the DVD, Warner Brothers, etc. that dont quite deserve their own postings, but are none the less still intriguing to read.

• Gasp! Even more shady marketing from WB to sell their DVD's? Shmuel Tennenhaus has a theory about something fishy going on over on YouTube, and it seems to have some merit. [Cost Per News]

• Apparently there are some BIG problems with some of the DVD's in the "Superman: Ultimate Collector's Edition" Box Sets. And we mean besides that DVD they shoe-horned in there with Singerman on it to try and help boost it's sales numbers. [DigitalBits]
  

• Singerman's box office apparently wasn't the only thing that we were expecting to be "bigger." Those Hi-Def DVD's show EVERYTHING, don't they? [Defamer]

• You know how Singerman having a kid in the film really sucked? Well Singer doesn't care, and he wants to give you a whole lot more of him in the sequel! Better hide your musical instruments! [Rotten Tomatoes]

• An amusing review of the Singerman HD DVD: "Bryan Singer's 'Superman Returns' is instead best described as an unapologetic cinematic love letter to Richard Donner's 1978 blockbuster 'Superman: The Movie.' Never have I seen a movie so in love with another movie -- I'm sure if Singer could have somehow CGI'd Christopher Reeve and Kate Bosworth together, and had them spawn bald children that looked like a cross between Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman, he would have done it." Miscellaneous Bits 10/6

<-- sometimes no caption is necessary. We've got a few miscellaneous news bits from around the web relating to Singerman from the past week, that I didn't care enough about to give them their own postings.

• WB is trying to undercut piracy in China by selling the Singerman DVD for under $2 (I still say that's too much), which may in turn wind up costing the rest of us more in the long run, assuming we were going to use them for decorative coasters or something. Recent reports are that pirates are still undercutting their prices.
• After their bad summer slate, the pressure is on at WB Studios this weekend with the release of The Departed.
• If you adjust for inflation the domestic grosses of all superhero films, Singerman would rank 13th, far behind Superman ($377 M) and Superman II ($256 M), as well as every Batman film except Batman & Robin, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
• Pirates Halloween costumes are flying off retail shelves. Singerman not so much.
• Speaking of costumes, Kate Bosworth apparently wants to be a skeleton this Halloween.
• We guess Kevin Spacey now has a thing for playing hackneyed villains.
• Not sure how we missed this one: A conservative female reviewer who thinks Singerman was an emasculated metrosexual? Go figure.
