Brandon Routh: Franchise Killer?

Well, well, well.... BJ is so dull he's putting HIMSELF to sleep...

The weekend box office numbers are in, and what do you know? ANOTHER film franchise is DOA with BJ Routh attached.

http://www.seattlepi.com/movies/425121_tvgmovies15.html

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World came in a dismal FIFTH in the box office tallies, totaling a paltry $10.5 million for it's opening weekend. FAR behind the Sylvester Stallone action extravaganza The Expendables, opening at #1 with $35 million. Who would have predicted THIS would happen? I mean, there are just SO MANY "people" out there that want BJ to strap on his Fruit Roll-Up cape again isn't there?

Obviously not. The ugly, overweight Apologist virgins couldn't even tally a DECENT number for BJ's latest FLOP.

I took a look at a few message boards these last few weeks, gauging the Apologists "predictions" for the two films listed above. I read things about how "Scott Pilgrim will easily beat The Expendables", and how "amazing Routh will be". Amazing is right. Amazing that this box office cancer was even included in the cast. Not only did The Expendables destroy Scott Pilgrim, but so did Eat, Pray, Love and TWO films in their second to FIFTH week of release! The Other Guys and Inception also placed well ahead of Pilgrim.

Anyone wondering if BJ's "Dylan Is A Dog" will get a US theatrical run? I am not going out on much of a limb when I think NO. The guy just isn't a box office draw, and anything his name is attached to will sink faster than his career projections.

Start filling out those applications at the local bowling alley, BJ. No one is going to be paying you $65 for a picture at a 'con for long....

Say Goodbye to Routh Too

When it rains, it pours I guess. These past few days feel like that scene in the movie Goodfellas when all of the mobsters who were in on the Lufthansa heist start turning up dead. Only their crimes weren't as egregious.

Just days after we got news of what potentially could be Bryan Singer's demise as director of Singerman, comes word via the fine folks over at Latino Review that Brandon Routh is OUT as the "Man of Squeal" as well in any solo Superman films, and that the Superman from the Justice League film, when or if he's ever cast, will take over the role in any stand alone flicks that will thankfully have absolutely no relation to Singerman. The article reads:
Kelvin knew about Brandon not being the new Superman for weeksand weeks now, but made a promise to the DC people that he wouldn't break the story. Variety has now confirmed what we've secretly known for a while and Brandon Routh will be replaced in the stand alone sequel by whomever is cast as Superman in the upcoming Justice League of America movie.
If Singer is gone as is expected, then Routh getting the boot is basically just a formality. We pretty much thought that would be the case. Routh is, in effect, the ugly baby getting thrown out with the dirty bathwater. As I've said before, personally I have no issues with Routh. While his acting is a bit stiff, he wasn't the big issue here and might've been serviceable under better direction. He seems like a likeable enough person, but he's just too much a part of what Singer did and that's something that will never come off in the public's eyes. Any future incarnation of Superman with him in it would automatically be linked to Singerman and that's NOT a good thing in WB's eyes at this point. Best of luck in your future endeavors maybe now you can devote more time to campaigning for Barack Obama. Ugh.

Now as for this JLA Superman. The heat has been pumped up a notch. As we suspected, this role will be bigger than just one film or even the JLA series. This person will have to be able to star in the role in solo films as well. God help us all if WB thinks some schmeg like D.J. Cotrona is going to be able to hold up that burden. Your move, WB.

UPDATE 1/5/08: Here we go again, Now AICN is allegedly "debunking" this claiming that they've talked to one of their infamous "moles." I had a feeling something like this was going to pop up from someone else with a source. Honestly, I'm deferring to Latino Review and their previous track record until I hear otherwise. We all know AICN's track record for things Superman has been a bit sketchy at best. Remember Rupert Evans and Scott Porter? Stay tuned.

Fun with the "Motivator"

Well, news has been slow lately so we're going to have a little fun. I'm sure you've all seen those cheesy motivational pictures hanging on the wall in some tool's office. You know the ones, with the inspirational term or attribute in big capital letters and then a sentence below it that bestows the values of said term? They even have some spoof ones out that are pretty damn funny.

Well BigHugeLabs.com has a neat little web application up that lets you create your own. And of course, us being us, we had a little fun with the application at Singerman's expense and of course we figured that we'd share the results with you. Click the image to enlarge. Enjoy.

We'd love to see the ones you guys in the Comments come up with.

And hey, don't forget: BOOT SINGER, REBOOT SUPERMAN!!

Brandon Routh Clings to Fleeting Career with Super Strength

Our Canadian friends over at DOSE.ca have a humorous look at some recent comments made by Singerman star Brandon Routh at the recent Singerman videogame/DVD (i.e. "Hope and Pray") launch party. It's good to know he's still around.

"With plans for a sequel to Superman Returns in the works, and with director Bryan Singer reportedly on board, Brandon Routh wants everyone to know he’s still around and will, like, totally play Superman again.

Routh told website E! Online, “They've publicized that Bryan had finalized his deal, which was the lynchpin in the whole talk about a sequel. So, everything looks to be heading that way.”

The actor, who made his much-publicized film debut in Superman Returns, also revealed some details of the sequel — tentatively titled The Man of Steel — including its possible villain

“There’s a lot of talk about Braniac; everyone wants to see [him]. But in the Superman Returns video game, you get to play as Bizzaro [the imperfect Superman clone], and Bizzaro’s pretty fun — you could have some fun with that [too],” says the actor. “So, I’m leaning towards one of those.'”

You tell em Brandon! Your ideas already sound more original than anything Singer's coughed up.

OK, OK. We'll talk about the TCA's

Although it doesn't have all too much to do with the problems plaguing Singerman, due to overwhelming request, we wanted to talk about what went down at the Teen Choice Awards that aired on Sunday Night on FOX. Fresh from the worldwide reclaimation project, known as the international Singerman marketing tour, a noticeably thin Brandon Routh showed up at the TCA's resembling a young Robert Carradine from his "Revenge of the Nerds" days, sporting a t-shirt that said "You Are Here" (how philosophic of him). The people at WB's marketing department must've been trying to find the nearest cliff to jump off of (assuming Singer didn't already push them off). After all, they've spent the past few months trying to show how "masculine" this guy is, yet he shows up on national television dressed like a frat boy and looking like he's been following the Kate Bosworth diet. Routh, to a mild smattering of applause (I mean how many teens actually saw Singerman anyway?) presented some mindless award to Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston, from his seat for some reason. I guess they didn't want him up on stage dressed like he works at a summer camp.

Compounding the humorous factor to this was the fact that about three minutes later, the "other Superman," Tom Welling, comes out to present an award looking built like a brick shithouse, and well groomed in a stylish sport coat, and they actually let him up on stage to give it. The crowd seemingly goes nuts, with the typical "We love you Tom's" echoing all around.

Now for the REALLY good part...who does Tom Welling wind up presenting an award to? Routh? Uh no. Spacey? yeah right. He winds up giving an award to JOHNNY DEPP for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2, and Welling noticeably dwarfs not only his co-presenter Kristen Bell, but the 6' tall Depp as well. For one time at least this summer, Captain Jack Sparrow actually looked up at Superman. You've got the big screen "multi million dollar" Superman sitting in the audience looking like a $2 tool, while his contemporary is up on stage looking like a million bucks giving an award to the guy who's film just kicked the ever-loving crap out out of the other guy's movie. Is that your daily recommended allowance of irony or what?
