Singerman II Going "Nowhere"

In today's Variety, Anne Thompson followed up her previous blog scoop with an interesting article that discusses the fate of any potential sequel to Singerman. While its not really anything we didnt already know, it does at least bring the point home for those who were whining about how" if she REALLY knew this why not put it in the magazine?" Well here you go. While she seems to be attributing a lot of things to the WGA strike, she brings up some interesting points in giving a run down of what we've been following for the past 6 months:

After "Superman Returns" delivered a disappointing box office take of $386 million worldwide, Warner Bros. and Singer debated how to proceed with the next "Superman" pic. The studio even considered rebooting the franchise with someone else.

But eventually WB execs Alan Horn and Jeff Robinov agreed to proceed with Singer at the helm of a $170 million "Man of Steel" packed with more action, a super-powered villain and less romantic melodrama.
We've heard this before, and it still makes absolutely no sense. How do you expect "more action and a super-powered villain" with $35+ million less in budget? From Singer of all people? If anyone still doubted his sense of fiscal responsibility, you need to look no further than his current project.
Before Singer started production on UA's "Valkyrie," WB and co-financier Legendary Pictures closed a deal for him to produce and direct "Superman: Man of Steel."
What she's talking about here is the development deal we heard about over the summer.

According to a spokesman for the director’s reps at William Morris, “ ‘Superman’ is moving forward with Bryan Singer attached.” But inside the studio, “Superman” is not on any fast track, and word is that Singer may wind up not directing it.
Nothing is happening. The WB supervising exec on the project, Dan Lin, has moved over to a studio production deal; exec Lynn Harris is taking over.
And there it is., right there in the pages of Variety for all who complained about it only being a blog posting.
So while Internet comic sites are rife with rumors about Warners replacing Routh with the new Superman from "The Justice League," the question of who plays Superman will depend on who directs Superman.
As we speculated, Routh's fate is tethered to that of Singer's apparently sinking ship. Don't be surprised if her remark about Singer looking for another project to direct is a subtle hint to a pending agreement with UA, especially since they've now cut a deal with the WGA.

The only thing I find odd about the article is that she seems to at times be attributing this all to the WGA strike. But a potential Singerman II was off the radar WELL before the strike happened. Otherwise they'd be in the position that the JLA film is now trying to make a Summer 2009 release. Obviously there are other factors at play here, and the change of leadership at WB may have more to do with it than you think.

How the fuck is Singer now letting the budget for Valkyrie get out of hand, after what just happened with Singerman. This is the same guy who made The Usual Suspects, a hell of a movie for peanuts. If his fate was not sealed already it is now for Singerman 2. No way they let him get going on another one, hand him 170 mil, only for him to go back to them for more during production. If he doesn't get this budget thing under control he may be out of a career soon.

Anonymous said...

By the way SSS, i agree with you about WB being crazy to think Singer can make an action packed sequel on about 170 mil, no chance at all. What made Singer look like shit was Michael Bay making Transformers so awesome looking and insanely action packed on a 150 mil budget. You bet WB saw that and was even more pissed at the 200 plus mil, almost no action and excitement Superman movie Singer delivered.

Hopefully now Steve Eunich can get his head out of his fuckin ass and accept that MOS will NOT be filming in March 08. The fuckin dreamer.

Stand bye as Eunich & Fagley's dreams come crashing down around them

Yep put a fork in this one folks. though it's kinda been known for a while singerman 2 was going nowhere and shall remain a failed attempt to refresh an old franchise. Best to learn from it and never again try to follow in its footsteps.

I wouldn't count on it. I bet at the Homopage Younis and the brain-dead apologist sheep are already foaming at the mouth over this one, as they'll state it as fact that MOS IS indeed happening and gloat about it, especially towards realists. Anyone want to go check that out?

BTW guys I have no clue who "uncle bingo" is or if he's legit. I cant see much of anything when he posts much less a way to contact him.

Once again I'll repeat my credo. Be careful of what you believe thats written on messageboards. Everyone's got an agenda, even if it is someone from a studio or with connections.

BTW on another note I love how certain people and/or websites attribute everything written in the comments sections to the blogs themselves. If people are calling each other "fags" in the comments, the blog gets labeled as "homophobic." Or if some "insider" posts something in the comments questioning IESB's credibility, they spazz out and go on a tirade against blogs. As I've always said, I dont have the time nor interest to moderate the comments. Your free to say and do as you please. The blog is an expression of my personal views and I wont say that anyone else's are invalid no matter how un "PC" they may seem to some who are used to having a "kindergarten teacher" making sure everything they say is "nice."

"Seriously, it amazes me the writers of this wretched program belong to a union. You know what? They don't deserve that kind of luxury! Same goes for the two idiots who produce this show."

That's a members comment mailed to Neal Fagley which he posted. Pretty funny stuff when you consider that the term "Singerman" is banned over there.

The point is you have no control over the worst offenders on the Homopage. Our regular contributor here, Terminal has already pointed out he can say what he wants about Smallville, right under your hypocritical nose, and get away with it as long as he says something like "I kid"

You may think you're being fair and objective but you're only blind to the obvious bias from your masters if that's the case. Being a mod for Younis and Bailey and being naive go hand in hand obviously.

Go back to your dream world where infact you are part of the problem.

...you have to admit though it's nice that even you can come here a say what you want. Feels like democracy

btw, you make any money out of assisting Younis? No thought not

There's nothing wrong with what he said. And, people DO say stuff like that about Brandon ALL.THE.TIME.

" Our regular contributor here, Terminal has already pointed out he can say what he wants about Smallville, right under your hypocritical nose, and get away with it as long as he says something like "I kid""

First, Terminal that posts at the HP is not the same one that posts here. Second, he can't say whatever he wants. People, contrary to popular belief here, can express their opinions whenever they want. The only difference is, that they need to be respectful to others opinions. And, at least when they are in the forums, they have to do it on topic.

"Me thinketh swright protesteth too much? Hit a nerve did we? "

You hit a nerve, when you tried to put me at the head of some Smallville hate gang at the HP, when in fact, I've been a die hard fan of the show from day one. THAT'S what's pissed me off.

How your faggot ass can come here and say that bashing Smallville DOESN'T happen, and ISN'T condoned when ANYONE can read the threads over there is HI-LARIOUS. And then, to turn around and say people CAN bash Singerman is even MORE REtarded.

Are you that fucking stupid, swright? Do you think you can re-write history over at the HomoPage? Guess what, cum-bucket? People over HERE can read. We don't need your lover Steve Eunich to read FOR US, and to TELL US what to "think".

swright isn't being as straight up as he believes himself to be.

When it comes to hypocrisy, the SHP is loaded. He knows Younis and the site, when it comes to merchandising, is a shill site.

Definition
Shill;is an associate of a person selling goods or services or a political group, who pretends no association to the seller/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage others unaware of the set-up to purchase said goods or services or support the political group's ideological claims. Shills are often employed by confidence artists. In the UK the term plant is used.

swright just hasn't the sense to get paid.

Anonymous said...

Shill: the rest of the definition.

'Shill' can also be used pejoratively to describe a critic who appears either all-too-eager to heap glowing praise upon mediocre offerings, or who acts as an apologist for glaring flaws. In this sense, they would be an implicit 'shill' for the industry at large, as their income is tied to its prosperity.

Hey, lookie what I found over at the emijayne Blog. It appears that the HomoPage's walking cum-dumpster has taken his WHINING all over the internets!:

"Because there is a very unhealthy hatred for that site and Steve because he was a Superman Returns fan. This hatred has turned the SSS blog into basically a forum to call Steve Younis, Neal Bailey, and myself all kinds of names."

Hear that, S.S.S? Your Blog is ONLY about the HomoPage losers!

"Now, it doesn't really bother me, people can do and say what they want about me. This is the internet, people say things that they would never say to someones face. But, I was hoping that this blog and its comments section wouldnt' turn into another "Bash the Homepage and Younis" section. I guess I was wrong as there is an anonymous poster that is intent on bringing up Steve Younis whenever he can. I'm sure it's the same person that started it all up on the SSS blog."

See what he says at the beginning about it "not really bothering me"? Well, let's see how the VERY NEXT PARAGRAPH STARTS:

"It sucks for me to read these comments about STeve and the site because I help Steve out by moderating his forums. There is someone here who contributes to Kryptonsite and I'm sure she would not like it if people were constantly attacking that site and Craig Byrne."

He has such a hard life, that swright. His wiw-feewings get hurt EVERY TIME we make fun of Eunich, Bailey and his homo ass. And he throws in the normal WIMP line of "wouldn't say that to someone's face" to show how much of a fuck-up he is. Want to know ANOTHER popular phrase that isn't true, asshair? "Money can't buy happiness". Ask your lover about that one, seeing as how he pimps the Superman symbol for cash DAILY.

Anonymous said...

Steve, people don't attack Craig Byrne because he hasn't any hidden agendas. It's a Smallville site, you know what you're getting.

Without going over it again, you're going to have difficulty convincing anyone outside on the homepage that it is anything other than blatantly biased.

Heck, Neal Bailey said when I got booted that Smallville's good looking women in great outfits was "animalistic"

Now, that's laughable when you think about it, and the sort of crticism you're not going to hear from Byrne or any other straight website. You should start your own Smallville site instead of trying to stop the deluge with a paper cup

and plus we never got to see those piccys of Supergirl in her red bikini, that really pisses me off!

Anonymous said...

Byrne runs a great site and (as far as I know) doesn't ban people for no reason but lets not pretend he's somehow less of a shill for Tollin-Robbins/Millar Gough Ink than Younis is for Singer and co.

Anonymous said...

the difference is the only thing Byrne shills are things for the show, that you purchase by linking from his site to Amazon, and he gets the referral credit. You're not ctually buying them from him. Also Craig actually writes those season companion books for the show.

Anonymous said...

That's right, but the difference is he doesn't try and hide the fact or pretend to be unbiased

...or go to lengths such as complaining about good looking women in Smallville.

That's just nuts

Anonymous said...

hello friends. I see certain people are now trying harder than ever to prove they're still "in the loop," and are looking even more ill-informed than ever.

First things first. The only casting "issue" is the one I explained earlier. WB has a Superman under contract. It's just a matter of whether there will be an "upgrade." Everything else is set or getting the finishing touches. Wonder Woman is cast and has been so for over a month. And I will reiterate again, Armie Hammer is not, nor was he at any time, Batman. I'll go on TV and declare that one, I'm so confident.

As for the "script issues," completely overblown as well. You really think that a script handed in back in June that made the studio "gaga" wasn't polished into shooting shape by now? Do you think the strike snuck up on anyone? The studios have been hording shootable scripts for a year. As I said Miller and Oeborne can do any "on the fly" writing that they need to (an d always could even before the strike), as can the script assistants that arent part of the WGA and commonly work on films. Not to mention that with the contract expired, there's no restrictions on who can come in and do rewrites anyway. They'll just never get into the WGA. Oh and Chris Nolan had no impact on rewrites, and didn't "force" any rewrites. Some must think he's Coppolla or something. Palmer still being a part of the film should tell you that.

I also take humor in reading commentary about how the Studio "doesnt want to piss off the WGA, so they arent doing such and such." That's an utter crock of bull. What's the WGA going to do? Double strike them? It's the WGA who wants something from the Studios not the other way around. The majors arent going to budge on this and the fact that the WGA signed one off deals with small shops like UA and Weinstein isnt scaring any of the majors. Those companies had to sign those deals or they risk going kaput. The majors can continue to wait them out. They've still got a steady flow of income coming for a while, whereas the WGA is starting to feel the pinch.

As for all the other "gloom and doom," do you really think WB would have talent over in Oz as we speak if the production has been in trouble for as long as some claim? Mr. Brody isn't just down there because he's developed a taste for vegemite. Oh and speaking of him, his predecessor in the film will be shooting 2 movies in Oz this spring, both at Fox Studios. (No, its not Jackman). Who then? Well since we were talking about "Baking Soda" before, think more along the lines of aluminum foil.

Hey remember though, like SSS says, I may just be some random nut posting nonsense on the internet. Then again in a few weeks, I could be right and it'll be "time to pay the check."

I've spoken personally to Welling's publicist and agent on a number of occassions. I call constantly to try getting updates. And every time it's been the same answers..."We can't comment." or "Sorry we have no comment."

Gough and Noveck are the ONLY two people who have said Welling will NOT be in JLA, going as far as saying WB has never even contacted Welling about and have no interest in him for the part. I know for an absolute 100% bet my life on it fact that's a bunch of bullshit. I was the first anywhere to announce them talking. Then IESB went on G4 and said he was a lock. Negotiations went south, but the WGA strike has rekindled the possibility of him signing on now that he will be freed of any obligations.

And SSS, if you ever want more details and background on Man of Steel getting the ax, just shoot me an email from my blog. I'm always willing share info with anyone who sees Singer for the overrated jackass he really is.

Well, I don't really know Craig that well and no I don't like it when people bash him, but I'm not about to step into the fray and complain about it.

If anyone states anything that I know is wrong, I will object and try to clear up the misconception, but I actually haven't seen that much bashing of Craig here. That is probably mostly because he stays out of this argument almost completely. The only time he's even mentioned JLA in regards to Tom was when Al (who no doubt called him) said Tom wasn't doing it.

Although, I think someone said Craig ran the Smallville magazine, that isn't true. He wrote some things for it, and now Neil Bailey is, but he isn't the editor...

Since I have to take leave of you for a few days, I'll leave you with a few pieces of info to tide you over as well as some reassurances.

A lot of the negative press you read lately about the film has little substance to it. Its being perpetrated by certain "camps" and offered to anyone who will listen. If you look at it closely, you'll see there's little substance to any of it, and most of it leads back to one or two places whose original stories were on shaky ground to begin with. Have there been issues that have arisen in the preprod? Sure there have, but show me a movie that hasn't had some obstacles even when there wasn't any strike.

Certain people want you to think the WGA strike is wreaking havoc on big productions like this, because they want to make it seem like the WGA has more power than they really do at this point. People hear that the "WB is scrambling to put together movies due to the WGA strike" and it gives off the perception that the strike is taking more of a toll than it is. Keep this in mind, EVERYTHING is about PR at this point and saving or losing face. Has the strike had an impact on the studios? Sure it has. Are the JLA sets crumbling down around the feet of Dan Lin? No, not quite.

I've also seen a lot of places reporting things about "deadlines." Don't put much stock in that. Mark my words, tomorrow will come and go and you wont hear anything about JLA cancellation or casting. It's what happens when people who aren't professional journalists hear things piecemeal and try to build a coherent story out of it. There are deadlines for things to be sure. Deadlines for casting finalization, for filming to begin, and for Smallville to know they wont be able to film past what was written before the strike, etc. But most of these are internal deadlines that will come and go with little fanfare.

One of those barriers is passing. Smallville is no more this year after what they finish filming in 2 weeks, and thus their cast become free agents for a while. The previous restraints are off. Its all up to the lawyers now.

As for the Dark Knight, well I've already told you who it ISN'T. Keep in mind, just because I say I'm something, doesn't make it so. Same goes for actors. As for who it IS? Well, I'd love to tell you that but so few people actually know the truth because WB wants to avoid a smear campaign from a related entity, that people close to me would be outed in a matter of hours. I'm sure SSS doesn't want the heat it would bring either. I'm sure he wants to keep this site the amusing "in joke" among certain people at WB that its always been.

At least he admits it.

I run a small and progressive Catholic parish in Sydney where Steve Younis is a parishioner and he himself will tell you I often speak of tolerence on matters of sexuality, which Steve of course appreciates personally.

As recently as the baptism of Steve's children, the adorable Bryan & Brandon, I told the congregation that I understand matters of the heart and if Steve wanted to cohabitate with a person like Neal Bailey, then we as members of the Catholic Church should respect his choice. Not agree with it perhaps, but we should remember that he is a free man. I even tried to lighten the somewhat surprised congregation by explaining that I myself would give up God, the Church and all my congregation to be with Erica Durance, should that miracle occur.

Not sure if anyone has seen this one but Robert at IESB is posting that JL is officially postponed:

"Justice League Officially Put On Hold
Written by Robert Sanchez
Wednesday, 16 January 2008

Just got a call from our trusted source in Australia involved with the pre-production of Justice League with an update on its status.

Word came down today that the film is officially on hold. This will be until, at the very least, after the Writers strike has been resolved. Right now it's looking like at least until June.

But for now, WB's Justice League live action movie is on hold!

Late last week, we brought you the news that a decision would be made this week regarding the status of the Justice League production and that the crew was preparing for the worst.

Well, it's a good thing they prepared because the worst has come.

Our source is solid, he's a crew member working directly on the production team down in Australia. He says the big meeting took place yesterday. They've decided on a one-week notice to all of the employees - this is a standard practice in Australian filmmaking as a courtesy when letting people go.

We've heard the crew is already looking for other work. Some crew people are literally twiddling their thumbs waiting for the one-week notice to officially be given out tomorrow. So, starting tomorrow, they've got one week left to go.

Officially the movie has not been cancelled, but put on indefinite hold.

This is confirmed and the news has filtered down to the entire production crew.

Let me make sure I've got this straight.

Sanchez has been wrong or inaccurate but every single damn thing he's reported on concerning JLA, but somehow he's right about this?

Just checking.

Yeah, his track record likens him to the Weekly World News, doesn't it? Where's Batboy when you need him? Let's see how fast it takes Younis to post this in the usual apologist light!

"Let's see how fast it takes Younis to post this in the usual apologist light!"

Younis has this "rumor" online already.. it's amazing how they only post negative JLA news..

Just pisses me off..

Anyways I hope this movie goes ahead and with welling as supes..

I'll let you hope that.

Me, I'll be hoping that everybody who's stood in the way of this movie happening gets flogged with rusty barbed wire, hurled into a shark-infested ocean, dragged back out, strapped to the nose of a space shuttle and launched into the sun.

Meh. Credibility left "Rusty Trambone" Sanchez' resume a LONG time ago.

Since he has been in the BS "camp" from the BEGINNING, proclaiming "doom" for JLA is right up his ass. Um, ass.

I mean alley.

Now the fucker has "so much to talk about" concerning JLA (after a viewing of Cloverfield, charming).

Following that, I suppose we can expect another video interview with Robert "fuck the fanboys" Sanchez and Brandon Who (where the latter all but holds up a sign saying "will work for food") shooting the shit over the latest pitch Singer did for MOS to WB (which most likely ended with Singer getting escorted out by security and a reminder about the terms of the restraining order).

Thrilling.

Fuck, at this rate it can only be a matter of time until Swooperman- Lurker of Steel gets fast-tracked.

Who needs a fucking drink?

Looks to be official as Variety and several others are confirming JLA being on hold.

Yep, an illiterate French homosexual at his worst! I guess he just walked down the street from France into NY City to go to a wax museum....

Hey, "superfag95", guess what? BS NEVER made a "pitch" for a sequel to his FLOP. Didn't happen. So, WB is NOW "clairvoyant" and KNOW what is going to happen in a story NOT written and NEVER pitched?? And not only that, but since no script is written and a writer's strike is going on, they are going to have it filmed and ready for 2009?

Yeah, and the next thing you're going to say is that you DON'T like the cock, and your mommy ISN'T a fat piece of shit.

Bingo is a fraud and you guys got suckered. I told you not to listen to him. Warner sucks and so does Singerman.

Yeah, very much looks like Emi and Bingo are frauds after all! Emi's newly opened blog is dead since the news hit the net.

This would be true if S.S.S. was posting his info on the front page, and we were ALL spouting off on how "incredible" his "news" was.

A few people wanted to believe, true. But it WASN'T "Uncle Bingo Love Fest 2008" in here. I asked for an e-mail because I had my suspicions. Didn't get one which FURTHERED them, and now I know he isn't as knowledgable as he claimed. Didn't mention him again after that first request.

But I ALSO don't trust people like Sanchez at IESB, and it's OBVIOUS why.

He's a BS taint-kisser, just like Steve Eunich.

Point taken. I should have re-phrased my statement. It was meant to be targeted to the few guys who post here who were lapping up Bingo's bull shit.
