Singerman's Next Flight Could Be Delayed.

Just one day after Brandon Routh did an interview to remind the general public that he had not been sucked into a black hole and was still in fact here on the planet Earth, comes a report in today's Variety that the next installment of the Singerman travesty errr trilogy could be delayed due to Singer agreeing to make another film with United Artists and one of the few people with an ego bigger than himself, Tom Cruise. Some interesting bits from the article:
"United Artists toppers Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner have
greenlit their second film, an original thriller that Bryan Singer will direct
as his next feature...

The film will delay Warner Bros.' hope of mounting a
sequel to "Superman Returns" in the near future
."

Hmmm... this is quite interesting on two fronts. First and most obivous, if Singer is directing this World War II film as his next project and they haven't even gotten to the pre-production phase yet, there's no way in hell it's completed in time that they start doing a Singerman sequel early next year for a 2009 release as has been speculated. As Variety says, it has to delay any kind of Singerman sequel, unless of course now that W.B. has cleaned it's "superhero house" with the exception of the Batman franchise, perhaps plans have changed?

Which leads me into the second front. Could this be the first sign that Singer is possibly on the way out of the Superman franchise? While it may be just wishful thinking on our part, seeing him taking on a film like this at this point in time does raise some eyebrows. Are Singer's "principles" somehow compromised by WB's mandate for a more action-oriented film with a scaled down budget? Or could the studio, who had a rough go of it in 2006, be looking for a new creative direction with a director who can do more with less? Too bad Zach Snyder is already signed on to do The Watchman next year. Now there's a guy who can do a comicbook justice. At one time, Singer was supposed to do a film in between Singerman and a potential sequel, but that was supposed to be part of his deal with WB and the project would be a WB project. This film has nothing to do with WB.

Some Superman "fan" sites have claimed this report is false, but offer no clue as to how they would know this? Given this report is from a credible industry source like Variety, I'm inclined to believe it for now. WB has made no official statement as of yet.

Warner Bros.' plans for mounting a sequel to "Superman Returns", Superman Homepage says the film is still on track for a March 2008 start of shooting.

and

Brandon Routh talks about potential villains in the upcoming "Superman Returns" sequel

Looks like SSS is running out of gas.

^Looks like SSS addressed the SMHP blurb about it not being true in the last sentence of the posting.

let's look at what we've got here. Variety, the most widely published Hollywood trade magazine saying their will be delays versus the Supermanhomepage, who has a paragraph on their site that says "The Variety report is false!" with nothing to back up any of it. Who sounds more credible to you?

Anonymous said...

Yeah whatever. What's really fascinating is that singer kisses old dudes. Yuckage.

Anonymous said...

Singer has said all along that he wanted to do another film before the next Superman. This is a much smaller movie and it will not take nearly as long to make. Plus Singer is well known for being a workaholic. He always has numerous projects going on at once. There are no quotes from Singer or WB saying anything is being delayed so until i see that i am going to assume everything is on schedule.

Supermanhomepage is the biggest Superman website on the net. If anybody would have inside information it would be SHP. SHP is also not known to blatantly lie just to contradict a news report.

Anonymous said...

Certainly the report makes waves because it is Variety. However Singer said nothing about this interfering with Superman nor did WB. If Nolan can make a film in between BB and still be on schedule with the TDK coming next Summer. Then why is it impossible for Singer to make a film and still be on track for the Superman sequel for Summer of 2009. That is a very long way off folks. This is a much smaller film he is going to be making first.

Anonymous said...

Especially since production(according to SHP) is slated to begin next March..That's a year a way people...Movies are made and released in less time...

I think SSS knows we are on to him. Although his alter EGO AP, is the biggest poster on this blog. Things are nice and quiet when he is not around slinging obsenities.

What does beign the biggest Superman site on the internet have to do with who and what they know? SMHP didnt even get Singer's production blogs so I'm not sure how "well connected" they are. Isnt it run by some guy in Australia? SMHP also jumped on just about every casting rumor there was back when they were casting Superman, so again I dont see them having any special inside knowledge, other than being invited with a handful of other websites to tour the sets.

is there anyone that you clowns think that ISN'T SSS's alter ego? First it's CK_is_Superman, now he's Apologist Puncher? Who next? The Hillside Strangler? I dont get why its so hard to believe that there are in fact many others who hate this film that visit this blog regularly. It's amazing the mental gymnastics you'll go through to try and somehow "discredit" him. How do we know that youre not the same clown posting conversations with yourself like Restart?

If the story in Variety is wrong as Superman Homepage claims (and doesn't give any evidence how it seems to know), it's certainly getting legs by being picked up elsewhere. Empire's already on to it I see.

So who's more credible? Variety or some kid in Australia? Hmmmmmm

Anonymous said...

Actually I scared AP away. He knows I am right and he won't show his face. I post link after link that they are moving forward and whats does this blog do just post unrelated stuff. Bryan is notorious for working several projects. Variety is just giving conjecture to fuel the fire.

The Academy Award Nominated Director is back in 2009!

Well the person who runs that site is very nice and knowledgeable about everything that is going on. He is not the type of person that would just make something up. I don't think Variety is not telling the truth i just think they may be speculating is all. They do not say in the article that according to sources in WB or according to Singer himself. They are just making a sort of a blanket statement not supported by anybody. Bottom line is we need more info than this. I imagine something definitive from WB will come relatively soon.

Singer was never nominated for an Academy Award, get your facts straight.

As for the Saturn Awards? Who cares? SSS has already shown that he sits on the nomination committee for those awards along with two of his cronies.

Anonymous said...

"This is a much smaller movie and it will not take nearly as long to make."

Uh huh. Wake up and smell the coffee junior. How much time will Singer need to make a credible, more action packed Superman film?

And as for Younis being a nice, knowledgeable guy. Sure. I'm still waiting on that kid from an Aussie soapie to be cast as Superman like he told us would happen. Younis knows squat. No more than you or me. The thing is though no matter what they do with the second film Younis and his ladyboy cronies will just love it no matter what.

They're just used to mediocrity.

I like how Routh responds to critics and filmgoers complaints about Returns....miss that bit apologists?

supermanhomepage is a joke. the guys there actually think infinite crisis 7 was a great comic, when even DC had to redo it cos they said it didn't turn out as they wanted. These guys suck singers dick all day long, Steve the main dude is naive and stupid, he thinks Superman is the most popular superhero based on one internet poll, Superman is the most famous but Spidey is way more popular. He also says that critics show that Superman returns is great based ona few polls when just about every movie site has people degrading the film. Such an apologist. Fuck that cunt.

Anonymous said...

What I don't understand about Younis and his gangbangers is that they endlessly pour scorn on Smallville (sometimes justifiably) yet uphold Returns as the pinnacle of movie making.

So yet again Routh has to defend the franchise by means of "the next one will be better" Christ on a bike!

Anonymous said...

I see Singer & Routh were back in Sydney a couple of weeks ago as guests of the Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gra.

Actually reading all of Routh's interview it's clear he knows nothing about the supposed sequel.

Don't be so hasty with predictions SSS. This blog's pretty good, but it ain't flawless. It falsly predicted SR wouldn't scratch and claw it's way to 200mil, remember.

Anonymous said...

Oh please, SR never REALLY made it to 200mil. WB fudged the #'s. You really think it just happened to pass 200mil by about 81 grand? If so, I've got this bridge you might be interested in buying. ;)

Anonymous said...

"Don't be so hasty with predictions SSS. This blog's pretty good, but it ain't flawless. It falsly predicted SR wouldn't scratch and claw it's way to 200mil, remember."
That's because no one would've thought that WB would hold out the movie just so it'd hit the $200 million BO. The movie was dead in august and needed over 2 more months to make the missing $10 million to become blackbuster status. In a disgrace for Superman just like the movie.

I still hope that Singer gets axed and they hire someone better to make a restart.

"SSS has already shown that he sits on the nomination committee for those awards along with two of his cronies."

SSS lives in fantasy land. Anything that comes out positive about SR he tries to spin into a conspiracy. He acts like Singer is the most powerful person in Hollywood and can easily manipulate people to praise his film at will.

Anonymous said...

^ I dont think SSS had to make all that much of a leap in logic for that. Singer sits on the Saturn nomination committee along with the guy who wrote Apt Puil for him as well as a WB exectuive. It's not that difficult to put 2 and 2 together. JNot that the Saturn Awards mean a damn thing anyway mind you.

They don't mean much of anything. Which begs the question why would Singer bother to rig the nominations if nobody cares? Plus if you are going to make that accusation against Singer then you have to look at every movie that got nominated and see if anyone else on the panel could have an alterior motive. Personally i don't think SSS actually believes any of that crap. He just likes to stir the pot by saying it.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, my whole problem with the "riggin the Saturn awards" crap is that it makes no sense. By everyone's own admission the saturn awards don't really mean anything. They aren't going to make people who haven't seen SR suddenly go and rent or buy the movie. It's going to do nothing for the money it's making. So why in the world would somebody rig them? Especially when you consider that all the other nominees know that you are on the board.

I know people around here hated the film, but riggin the Saturn awards is a bit far fetched. Now if BS sat on a panel that awarded SR Oscars that it didn't really deserve then I would be wondering what is going on, but not the Saturn Awards.

How easily you fake fans forget how over-confident you were with you "Singer can do no wrong" attitude before Return's release.

Now you're still trying to make Real superman fans buy into your ways like some cult de Singer. Good luck with that.

It's sad we're now over 30 years away from STM's release and we're still fucking in the same franchise, with a super kid this time. That makes it one great superman film and 4 inferior ones to add to the heap of shit underneath Donner's classic.

What a joke. If people are defending this guy for pissing away comic fan's dreams and wasting 270mil, then people certainly will defend anything...

Same as the people who said the only reason Singer got a deal for the sequel was to help boost DVD sales. Yeah that makes sense. The average person walking the street who may be on the fence about buying the SR DVD, is going to rush out and buy it when they hear Singer is doing the sequel That makes absolutely ZERO sense.

Anonymous said...

Why is there so much love here for The Dark Knight. Spiderman 3 will be here in May. That is a smash hit franchise. Neither BB nor SR were big hits.

Anonymous said...

Actually people do buy movies based on their potential for sequels. Why would a network for example show the first episode of a show without telling the viewer it's intended to be an ongoing series. People commonly watch series because they're consistently entertaining. Therefore, one can assume someone would be more willing to buy the first film in a franchise if it promises follow through in more movies in coming years, very similar to episodes on tv.

Anonymous said...

"Why is there so much love here for The Dark Knight. Spiderman 3 will be here in May. That is a smash hit franchise. Neither BB nor SR were big hits."

The simple explanation is that The Dark Knight promises to be a great Batman film.

While SR's future is uncertain, but even if it had a future, who cares about superboy and superdad.

Anonymous said...

"The simple explanation is that The Dark Knight promises to be a great Batman film."

That is awful subjective considering BB was not a bigger hit at the BO than SR. It cost less to make but more people did not see it than SR. That is why i am using Spiderman 3 which you know based on the first 2 will be a big hit. You don't know that about TDK, since BB was not a big hit.

Anonymous said...

Actually, BB had the stain of the previous installments and that was reaffirmed months later when word of mouth and all the critical acclaim it got made it a major success on dvd. The Dark Knight is already the most anticipated film of 08. It will be huge.

Anonymous said...

HAHAHA don't make me laugh. For months i've been around the supermanhomepage forums and reading the comments there. HA the most anticipated film of 2008 in your dreams. Indiana Jones 4 is coming out in 2008 that is by far the most anticiptaed film of the year. SR dvd sales and rentals were right in line with Batman Begins and like i said both lightyears behind Spiderman 1 and 2. TDK had better kick ass domestic because based on the overseas numbers for BB it will not have a big worldwide total.

Anonymous said...

Wow you are one delusional fuck if you can't see how eagerly anticapated the next batman film is.

I pity you.

Anonymous said...

The movie is anticipated...But honestly, it's only eagerly anticipated by the online, and comic book fans...Nobody I know has reacted like they are dying to see it, even when I've given them news on the sequel.

I think it's going to be a big hit next year..It will make more than BB did, but next summer is going to belong to INDY....

George Lucas and Spielberg are both doing it again. If Indy was being handed off to someone else than i would have my doubts. If it is done right that is the biggest movie of 2008 it will blow TDK out of the water. Like i said BB tanked badly overseas it needs to make it's money domestic.

Anonymous said...

TDK will be bigger just because it will be more action packed with Batman from the start, and it will have the Joker as the main villain..A lot is going to hang on Heath Ledgers shoulders. He has to bring a convincing Joker for this movie to really be a smash.

TDK will do better overseas because it's a sequel. They almost always do better..But I just don't think it has it in it to beat Indy 4...With the new technologies out there it could really make this movie special.

Anonymous said...

"TDK will do better overseas because it's a sequel. They almost always do better..But I just don't think it has it in it to beat Indy 4...With the new technologies out there it could really make this movie special."

It may do better overseas but BB only made 166 mil overseas. Comic book films not named Spiderman do not pull in the big bucks overseas these days. So if TDK gets to 200 overseas that is probably pretty good as far as WB is concerned.

Anonymous said...

166 million requires an 'only' that's a shitload of money, blockbusters always make most of their money domestically.

Indy 4 will be big but it will be 'another one', I doubt it will make as much as people here think it will, it's Indy but it's not Star Wars. The hype for The Dark Knight is huge, and the way they are going with it, being a crime war drama with Roman Sionis and Rene Montoya as characters then expect it to be freaking massive.

And Supermanhomepage.com sucks the big one, hate smallville but like SR and infinite crisis 7? Fuck ya self.

Anonymous said...

"166 million requires an 'only' that's a shitload of money, blockbusters always make most of their money domestically."

No it is not a shitload of money at all. Comic book fillms have trouble getting to 200 mil overseas unless they are Spiderman. SR made 191 mil overseas so i guess that is a shitload of money right. Your comment about blockbusters making most of their money domestic is not correct. Look at Casino Royale it made more than double it's overall take overseas. The hype for TDK is not huge compared to another, Lucas, Spielberg, Ford Indy movie, sorry that is going to be far bigger.

ShowTime (a good guy, not a troll) has posted this in the shh forum:

I am going to keep my source anonymous of course and just tell you that they have been quite reliable in the past.

As most of you know, I wouldn't post something like this unless I thought it might be of merit and spark of validity. Of course, I would not bet the Kent Farm on it, but take it for what you will.

"Singer is not cut loose but he knows that the WB can still make a Superman movie without him. It however will not have anything to do with the Superman Returns film franchise. There is a small team together looking for other options to keep the Superman movie franchise going.

These options are not only a new story, but a new cast, and while Brandon Routh is liked the possibility of casting a known actor is now at the forefront in order to convince the general public this is something TOTALLY new and has nothing to do with the Superman Returns franchise.

The WB does not want to pull the plug on the Superman franchise. Instead they want to give the reigns of the project to a new creative team. They are specifically looking into the Wachowski Bros. If a deal is not made within the next 6 months, they may go ahead with the Singer sequel with decent sized budget cuts and push the new Superman franchise back an extra few years (maybe 2012??)

That's why Singer has been given time to make another movie, and yes there is a delay on Superman Returns. WB is not commenting as of yet to keep things a little quiet while they decide if the possibility of the Wachowski Bros is large enough to flat out dump Singer."

Anonymous said...

Wow a poster with an inside source say's that huh. So WB wants to give Superman to the jackasses that ruined their own franchise in the Matrix sequels, sure. BTW this is directly from Bluetights from the guy who made the documentary for SR. His name is Robert Burnett and he holds some Q&A over at Blue Tights every now and then here is what he said.

"Angeloz asks if I'm coming back to work on the sequel. The answer is...I'm ALREADY working on the sequel. Bryan, Brandon and the whole merry bunch will be coming back...and filming will probably begin March, 2008, as was always planned from the beginning. The WWII film Bryan plans to shoot over the summer will have NO EFFECT whatsoever on the Superman sequel schedule."

Burnett is a nobody but some anonymous guy who posts at SHH is credible. Burnett is directly involved with the production his word carries merit. Don't you think if Singer was getting mixed signals from WB that he would be less enthused about doing it? According to Rob, Singer is on schedule and totally intent on starting in March of 08.

Yes. Because I'm still waiting for the kid from an Aussie soap to star as Superman, as reported by Younis.

Did Variety report Bosworth's Razzie nomination? Coz Younis completely overlooked that news item.

Anonymous said...

"Anyone manage to video Tim Burton signing his contract? Or Joss Whedon signing his Wonder Woman contract? Or Kevin Smith....."

None of those people actually made a superhero film that WB was deciding on as to whether or not they deserved a contract for a sequel. WB was happy enough with SR that they signed Bryan for the sequel. Plus Singer is a big time director other than Burton all the other names you mentioned are not in his league they are not even close. Plus Burton never got to make his Superman movie Singer did and WB resigned him based on SR. WB was considering Burton because of his work on Batman it had nothing to do with Superman. WB made their decision based on what Singer has already done with Superman.

Anonymous said...

Rob Burnett is already working on the behind the scenes documentary for the sequel (like they had footage of the early planning sessions for SR).

Rob burnett clarify his answer:

Quote:
First off...I love when my opinions get reported as NEWS on another site (not!). If somebody decides to report NEWS, I should be officially contacted and my quotes confirmed. What I post on these boards are my opinions only, with facts offered whenever possible, but if something hasn't happened yet...how can it be news?

Just because Bryan has signed a deal to direct a Superman sequel, doesn't mean it's gonna' happen when I say it will. A comet might hit the earth over the summer and destroy the WB. One never knows. Bryan might decide to move to Nepal and become a monk and turn his back on Hollywood forever...who knows? It's my personal opinion the Superman sequel will follow the same production schedule as the first film, which begain shooting in March, 2005 for a June, 2006 release. This would mean a March 2008 start date for a June (or July 4th?), 2009 release.

Again though, there currently IS NO official schedule or start date for a Superman sequel.

Hell, maybe the WB will scrap all the individual DC Superhero franchises and decide instead to make a Justice League movie (of course, you'll be able to buy snow cones in Hell on that day). In Hollywood, nothing is certain.

Warner Bros. will officially announce a Superman sequel when they're good and ready to do so.

Calm down apologists, now you've got the production team backpedalling quicker than ever.

Restart the ReTard loses again. Typical.

What is emerging is the amount of hot water Steve Younis is getting himself into over on Homepage.

Younis:What does retraction mean?

I'll say this you will see another Superman movie before a JL movie. That will be very expensive to make and it will be hard to find a great script that incorporates so many superheroes in one movie. Already they are saying Batman won't be in it, sounds to me like just rumor.

"Calm down apologists, now you've got the production team backpedalling quicker than ever."

Nobody is backpeddaling at all. Burnett gave his opinion that everything is still on track. His opinion needs to be seen as credible because he is close to both Singer and the production. Variety did the same thing they offered their opinion that the sequel would be delayed that was not based on fact.

"Again though, there currently IS NO official schedule or start date for a Superman sequel." says Rob Burnett

So your point that Burnett wasn't back pedalling is???

Burnett's comments were directly related to Singer's schedule which Variety claimed would prevent the sequel from happening right away. He said that everything is still on schedule and Singers next project won't interfere with Superman.

How could it? There are no definite plans for Superman

"How could it? There are no definite plans for Superman"

There is a deal for Singer to do the sequel. Variety said his schedule would prevent this from happening for some time. Burnett knowing Singer and his schedule said that is not true. Saying that it was always his plan to do another film before the sequel and his plans are to start in March of 08. If WB decides not to do the film that is another issue. I doubt we are going to hear anything for some time on this. I'm sure WB is going to wait to see the script Singer delivers and then decide whether it is a go or not.

reading all this i still dont get why people are defending singer, the film was not good, it wasn't a good superman film, it was not a good film period. It was dull and most people realize this and even the studio and every major and minor mvoie website says the same thing. Why is it repeatedly reported 'more action' why is Routh saying it, because there was a backlash with it being dull, that is fact. So Younis and apologists, shut the fuck up. X2 and The Usual Suspects were great films, Singerman sucked hard, accept it. Doesn't mean Singer can't come up with something better but Ego was definately involved in SR and that's why it sucked. The worst is SHH rags on Smallville for not following the mythology, when infact it's a modernization, SR blatantly fucks up the core aspects of the character and made it boring so that's worse.

I love how an apologist earlier states that a Justice League movie would be impractical because of the amount of superheroes involved. You have to give Singer X Men but he struggles with only one superhero in a film.

Then again, obviously he just doesn't get Superman and what he stands for.

What is amusing though is seeing Younis getting his ass handed to him over at SHP. Backpedalling isn't the word

Steve Younis has contributed more to Superman than any of the jackasses that occupy this place. All he did was relay Rob's assertion that the movie Singer is doing won't effect the schedule for Superman. He did not announce that WB had greenlit the film. Variety stated that it was Singer's schedule that would delay the sequel and apparently that is not true.

Bullshit. Younis is clearly pushing his Singer agenda yet again and batting way outside his league. He's over there backpedalling furiously about the furore he's started under the news headline titled:
"Robert Meyer Burnett Confirms Sequel Start Date"

Burnett has had to come out and pour water on Younis's foolish actions.

I'm a fan of other franchises and I want to hear ALL the news about them, good AND bad, not just some rosey colored glasses puff pieces and idle speculation, followed by childish tantrums when found out as being incorrect.

really? what comics, tv shows, or movies has he written?

Then, as if by magic, the whole discussion about Younis's misleading NEWS vanishes!!

Yeah, never let the facts interfere over on Superman Homepage!

Younis:What does retraction mean?

The retraction has nothing to do with the homepage...

Why would STeve Younis have to backpedal? He didn't do anything wrong...He posted what Rob said to him without revealing that it was from ROB...Rob then went into a public forum and posted teh post that he is now retracting..

I guess you have a bias against the homepage and I'm pretty sure I know who you are....And I know you know who I am..

"really? what comics, tv shows, or movies has he written?"

What have you written retard? You got a list of names of people on this blog that write for Smallville or something. He is a very nice guy and he runs one of the most popular Superman sites on the internet. His devotion and love to the character is flat out unquestionable. When you run a site that is as popular and devoted to Superman as his then talk shit about him okay pal.
